The Sustainability Festival  is a not-for-profit event that strives to build a stronger community built upon the principles of living well in the present, while still leaving a healthy world behind for future generations.

Horse Logging DemonstrationSustainability means different things to different people.   For some, sustainability means ‘green’ – a way of life that protects and conserves both the environment and its resources from overuse and contamination with a focus on using less and recycling more.  For others, it means self-sufficiency – taking responsibility for one’s own needs within a family or community in terms of food, shelter, energy and transportation.  And yet, for others, it means a vibrant economy based on local organic and natural food and food producers, such as small family farms, farmers markets and small business partnerships.

201114In essence, sustainability refers to the ability to maintain or sustain our current quality of life long into the future, whether it be social, economic or environmental.   Each generation is charged with the stewardship of the earth and all that is upon it, yet it is not ours to abuse or destroy.  Our job is to see that our children’s children’s children will grow up in a world that is as abundant, vibrant and healthy as the one that we enjoy today.  Simply put, sustainability means to maintain something indefinitely and the Sustainability Festival hopes to promote the ideals of good stewardship for all of mankind.

This year’s festival will once again be held at the Next Step Seventh Day Adventist Church and old go-kart track on North Highway 63 across from Richards R-5 School in West Plains, Missouri  from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.

201153The OSF is a not-for-profit organization with no political or religious affiliations.  We are a diverse group of people working together for a common goal.  The SDA church graciously hosts our event at their facility free of charge and in return we happily respect their religious tenets.   No guns, weapons or alcohol are permitted on the grounds and no pork or pork products will be served or sold.   Please leave your pets at home.  Parking and admission are completely free and new vendors and volunteers are always welcome!
